Faugheen 5k on April 22nd

The 2016 Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge gets underway on Friday week next, April 22nd, with the fourth running of the very popular Faugheen 5k road race. The race is once again kindly sponsored by Fitzgerald Fleming Long Accountants, Carrick-on-Suir and forms the first leg of the five-race summer series organised by Carrick AC. The accurately-measured race route is very fast and flat, affording runners an ideal opportunity to achieve a personal best time for the 5km distance. This event has a full AAI permit. Race entry for each of our races is €10 but runners can save 40% by entering all five for just €30 at race registration in Faugheen. Registration will commence at 6pm in the parish hall beside the church and the race starts at 7:30pm just outside the village. There will be prizes for the first three finishers in the men's and ladies' races as well as all the usual category prizes and team prizes. The race winner will also receive the Gerry Moran Perpetual Cup. As usual, there will be an overall series prize for the top points scorers over the series. Last years race attracted a field of 162 runners and the race winners were David Mansfield (Garda AC) in 15:28 and Siobhan O' Doherty (Borrisokane) in 17:15. Post-race refreshments and prize-giving will be in Flemings Bar in the village. For further information contact Mark (086-1608165) or Alan (051-641826)

Munster Road Race

Well done to club member, Patrick Roche, who made the long journey to Kilnaboy in County Clare on Sunday last for the Munster Senior, Novice and Masters road races over a 4-mile route. Patrick ran a great race to finish in 28th place overall and seventh O/35. Patrick was the second Tipperary athlete to finish in this category, helping to secure the silver medals for the county team. Patrick's run also saw him finish 20th in the novice race, earning him another silver medal with the Tipperary team. This was a great achievement for Patrick in representing both club and county.

Ballinroad 5k

There was a great turnout of over 300 runners for the Ballinroad 5k road race on Friday last. Barry Keane from Waterford AC and Sally Forristal from St. Joseph's AC were the race winners in 15:49 and 19:04 respectively. Carrick AC's Derek Walsh ran a fine race to finish fourth in 16:54. Ger Murphy and Seamus Ward broke the magic 20-minute barrier with their respective times if 19:41 and 19:59. In the ladies' race, Mary Molloy ran very well to finish in a time of 20:42. Well done to all our runners.
