Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club Notes 21st April 2008

223 runners went to the line on Friday evening last for the traditional curtain raiser for the Ger Wyley Summer Series, The Marine Climb. Run over a gruelling 6 mile course, this tough race was made no easier by the chilly weather. However it really whetted the appetite for the long summer months ahead on the road running circuit. Anyway at the business end of the race Ravis Zakis of West Waterford AC took top honours from fellow country man Sandis Bralitis in a great time of 32:24. Top of the pops for the ladies was Kilmore AC athlete Jackie Carthy in a superb time of 39:18. Early days yet but these two runners have certainly made their intentions clear for the months ahead.

There was a great turn out of 8 Carrick runners on the night. Each of them put in extremely solid performances up the hill. Here is how they finished: 16. Ger O'Loughlin-37:53; 23. Keith Barry-38:40; 37. Mark Connolly-40:26; 43. Tommy Falconer-40:54; 47. James Fox-41:25; 52. Brendan Cronin-41:41; 145. Mick O'Shea-49:52; 170. Ger Houlihan-52:41. Well done one and all!

Please note that due to circumstances beyond their control the organizers of Race 2 in the Ger Wyley series have had to bring the Butlerstown 10k forward from Saturday 26th April to Friday 25th.
