Iverk Produce Piltown 10k

The 2016 Outfield Sports Three Counties Challenge came to its conclusion on Friday evening last with the ninth running of the Piltown 10k road race. This year's race was kindly sponsored for the first time by local company, Iverk Produce. A field of 96 athletes lined up in Kildalton Horticultural College for the race start and conditions proved ideal for running. The early pace was sensible and there was a large group together passing by the lake on the college grounds approaching the one-mile mark. A group of three runners moved ahead as the field headed out into the country. Carrick Ac's Brian Murphy had the company of both Kevin Moore from Dundrum AC and Kevin Maunsell from Clonmel AC. As the leaders made their way through the Iverk Show grounds for the final 200 metres it was Kevin Maunsell who pulled away to win in a time of 34:10. Kevin Moore was a very close second in 34:15 with Brian Murphy taking third place in 34:40, just ahead of Niall Sheil (St. Killian's AC). The overall series prize was won by Brian Murphy. The ladies' race was won by the in-form Jackie Carthy (Kilmore AC) in 38:11 with Sally Forristal (St. Joseph's AC) and Caoilte Malone (Kilkenny City Harriers) taking second and third places. The overall series prize for ladies was won by Sylvia Malone (Waterford AC).

Carrick AC would like to thank all who helped in the organisation and running of this year's race. We are especially grateful for the generous sponsorship of both Iverk Produce and Outfield Sports, Carrick-on-Suir. The club would like to thank Carrick-on-Suir Red Cross for their assistance throughout the series. Piltown GAA Club and Kildalton Horticultural College were once again very generous in allowing the club to avail ogf their excellent facilities and grounds. Finally, a very big thak-you to all who helped with stewarding, registration, timing and results at all of our five races this year.
