AutoPower Rathgormack '5'
The beautiful village of Rathgormack in county Waterford was the setting for the annual AutoPower '5' - the fourth race in this year's Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge - on Friday evening last . Conditions were good for the 72 runners who lined up for this tenth renewal of the race and runners were rewarded with some fast times.The slight modifications to the race route, eliminating the uphill section in the village, met with approval from all who took part. From the start, a group of three runners pulled ahead of the field and as they passed through the village after the first mile Jimmy Boland (Clonmel AC) just led from Brian Murphy (Carrick AC) and Niall Sheil (St.Killians AC). Out in the country, it was Brian who took over at the front and he held a commanding advantage all the way to the finish line, completing the course in 26:48. Niall was a clear second, clocking 27:08 with Jimmy taking the third prize in 28:08. The ladies' race was won by the in-form Jackie Carthy (Kilmore AC) with a time of 30:40. Sylvia Malone (Waterford AC) took second place in 31:01 ahead of Sally Forrisal (St. Josephs AC) in 31:55. Carrick AC's first finisher was Mary Molloy who clocked 34:40 and won the ladies' O/35 category prize.
