Champion Kiely 5k in Ballyneale This Friday    

 
This Friday evening, June 8th, will see the first of four races in the annual Outfield Sports Three Counties Challenge when the Champion Kiely 5k takes place in the village of Ballyneale. This is a hugely popular event and has seen fields of over 200 runners in the past two years.Registration (€10 entry) will be at the Community Hall in Ballyneale from 6:15pm and there will be ample space for parking at the nearby GAA grounds. You can enter for all four races in the series on the night for the reduced price of €35. The course is very flat and provides a great opportunity to achieve a personal best time for the 5k distance. Chip timing will be used to ensure the accurate recording of all finishers. There will be prizes for the first three finishers in the men's and ladies' events as well as a junior prize.Category prizes will be for Over-35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 for the ladies and Over-40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 for the men. There will also be a team prize.Prize-giving and refreshments will be at the Community Hall after the race. The race is held in honour of Tom Kiely, the great Olympic champion in the All-Round event at the 1904 Olympic Games held in St. Louis, Missouri. Tom was born in 1869 at Curraghdobbin, Ballyneale.
 
 
Walls of Fethard 4 mile Race        
 
Carrick AC runners were to the fore at the 'Walls of Fethard' 4-mile race last week. Martina O' Dwyer had another great run to win the ladies' race in a time of 23:45. Angela McCann (Clonmel AC) was in second place with another Carrick runner, Claire Annan, taking third prize in 24:57. Theresa Cunningham was also among the prize-winners, taking the O/40 first prize with a time of 28:01. Michael Freaney came home in 28:03 and Josephine O' Dwyer completed her very first race , clocking  34:32. Well done to all our runners.
 
Touraneena 5k                  
 
At the Touraneena 5k on Friday evening last there was a great win for Carrick AC's Claire Annan in the ladies' race. Claire came home in front of Corinna Walsh (West Waterford) with a fast time of 18:56. Theresa Cunningham clocked 21:38 while Geraldine Houlihan finished in 25:02. In the men's race victory went to Sandis Bralitis (West Waterford) with a time of 15:39. Carrick AC's Brian Murphy returned to form with a fine third-place finish (16:09). Our next finisher was Tommy Falconer (17:30) in ninth just ahead of Patrick Roche, who was twelfth in 17:39. Tom Doherty ran a very good race to finish in 20:19 and David Waters showed that he is on the road back to full fitness with a 20:25 run. Ray Burke (21:34) and Brian Nugent (24:55) will be well pleased with their runs also.  
 
Fit-4-Life
 
The Fit-4-Life meet 'n train run will this Tuesday, June 5th, start from the Sean Kelly Sports Complex and take in the Kilonerry loop. Next Tuesday, June 12th, will see the runners sample the Deadman's 5 route, starting at the library in Carrick. All are welcome to join in the weekly run which starts at 7pm.
