Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club Notes 1st October 2007
Another very successful 1 Mile challenge series came to a close last Tuesday evening with 28 runners going to the line on what was a distinctly Autumnal evening. The going was tough and it proved difficult for runners to improve on some already outstanding times. However for Diane Behan, Darragh Byrne, Yvonne Kelly, Teresa O'Sullivan, Sandra Casey, Susan Collins, Paula Walsh, Breda Curran, Jacqui Childs, Fiona O'Meara, Deirdre Crowe, Una Fahey, Colette Treacy and Marie Twomey the weather proved no obstacle as they all recorded their fastest time of the series on this the last week.
The results from week 4 are as follows: Group 1: 1. Geraldine Lynch-7:53; 2. Colette Treacy-7:59; 3. Teresa O'Sullivan-8:08; 4. Yvonne Kelly-8:14; 5. Linda Fahey-8:34. Group 2: 1. Anthony Grace-5:19; 2. Darragh Byrne-5:23; 3. John O'Sullivan-5:28; 4. Diane Behan-5:52; 5. Tommy Falconer-6:09.
In the overall series the runners were divided into 3 groups-Group 1 (10 minutes +); Group 2 (7-10 minutes); Group 3 (sub 7 minutes). Athletes with the biggest improvement on their week 1 time in their respective group were the prize-winners. Here are the provisional results: Group 1: 1. Ned Crowe-3:34; 2. Nicola O'Sullivan-3:04; 3. Jackie Walsh-2:56. Group 2: 1. Linda Fahey-1:26; 2. Colette Treacy-0:47; 3. Tina O'Mahony-0:42. Group 3: 1. Joe Gough-0:34; 2. Diane Behan-0:28; 3. John O'Sullivan-0:24.
Winter League
The registration night for this year's Winter League will take place at Kildalton College, Piltown (by kind permission) on Tuesday 16th October commencing at 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is €3 but a €5 number deposit will also be required on the first night of registration. Athletes can run over either the 2.5k or 5k distance at their own pace on this registration night to familiarise themselves with the course. No times or places will be recorded. The league proper will start the following week 23rd October with registration from 6:30-6:50 p.m. and all runners off at 7 p.m. sharp. As with last year the number one rule is ‘no bib-no run' so please wear your reflective vest while running as it will be dark and the road is not closed. We will have more information on the Winter League over the next number of weeks, in the meantime keep up the training!
